Measure over bare skin, not over clothes, and keep the tape level. Waist at the narrowest point, hips at the fullest. It takes a minute and it is the single best way to avoid a return.

If most of your shape sits at the waist and stomach, this is the shape the garment is built around. Go by your waist measurement rather than your hips, and if the two point at different sizes, take the larger. The panel through the middle is where the compression is strongest.

If your hips are more than about 10 inches bigger than your waist, size to your hips. Sizing to the waist is the classic mistake here: it rides up at the leg and digs in at the hip all day. The waist will still hold, because the fabric has more give than the measurement suggests.

If your waist and hips land in the same row on the chart, take that size and you are done. Between two rows, take the larger one. Sizing down does not give you more shaping, it just makes it harder to wear for a full day.

Check the size chart on the product page and measure yourself against it rather than your usual size. SculptControl runs true to fit snug on purpose, since a closer fit is what gives you that smooth, supported feel. Between two sizes? Size up for all-day comfort.
Under most things, no. It is thin, flat-finished at the edges and has no waistband ridge to press a line through a dress or a fitted top. The honest exception is very thin, very light fabric in bright daylight - white linen, a pale silk slip - where any shapewear can read as a faint outline. Under black, colour, denim, knit and anything with texture, you will not see it.
You do not need one. The bra is built in, with moulded cups and adjustable straps on both sides, so it goes on in a single step and there is no band sitting under a second band. Set the straps to the height that works for your torso. If you prefer the support of your own bra, this is not the piece for that.
It is firm. You will feel it holding you the whole time you have it on, and that is what makes the difference under clothes. What it should not do is pinch, dig in, or make it hard to breathe or sit down. If it does, you are in the wrong size, and going up one usually fixes it.
